Healing and quality of life are enhanced by being heard and understood
Regardless of the reasons that bring you as an individual or couple to therapy, you deserve to be heard, understood, and guided by sound counseling (all while maintaining your privacy and peace of mind).
A song I wrote years ago, "Feels Better When I Talk About It," says it best. As the best academic research and my experience show, talking promotes healing, improved communication, and internal balance. Talking about relational issues, concerns, illness, anxieties, grief, and trauma with a licensed counselor can help you meet this essential need while it also aligns you with an expert equipped to share advice, strategies, diagnostic assessment, and recommend additional (internal and external) therapies.

About the Therapist and Practice
Meet Your Trusted Therapist
Gary Hornfeld, LMSW, LMFT, DIPLOMATE PLC, is a licensed psychotherapist and licensed marriage and family therapist in private practice some fifty years. Along with two other therapists, he opened the first county crisis center in 1973 dealing with suicides, drug, and alcohol problems and evaluations for a local hospital psychiatric inpatient unit. Several years later, along with several women rape and sexual assault activists, they opened the first county rape and sexual assault center. Both agencies are still functioning. A Vietnam vet, dental tech/medic, he is a lifelong musician, singer songwriter, recordist, and Native American and environmental activist. Having grown up on a large horse, cattle, and crop farm, he is a horse trainer, equine therapist, amateur historian (write what you know) and part time university professor. Also, an AIM member (American Indian Movement), he holds memberships in many Native American and environmental organizations and has written papers for the prestigious Ecopsychology Journal. He has also written, recorded, and performed several music albums dealing with the above subject matter at Earth Day concerts since the second one in 1971. His family reflects Indian heritage with children and grandchildren from Iroquois and Abenake Nations.

Reviews
We received help in so many ways. Before we started counseling, we were at each other’s throats. Now, we no longer feel defensive or on the attack, but we truly listen to each other’s needs. Thank you so much!
We were divorcing and hopeless. Counseling helped us to stop fighting and begin to really solve our problems of money, parenting and finding ways to meet each other’s needs and renew our love for each other.
Our children were driving us crazy and nobody was happy. We learned how best to parent our two teens without yelling at each other and begin to work together so we all benefited.
My in-laws were constantly involved in our family and invasive with our children. We couldn’t function and we learned how to manage their needs to control us. It was difficult, but we finally succeeded and learned how to maintain. Thank you so very much for helping us with this issue.
My past history of trauma was always preventing my partner and me from achieving real intimacy in our relationship. Now, even though it comes up periodically, I and we can work our way through it. We are so much better now.
My husband had a very complicated situation of infidelity. With our counseling, he was able to disengage, apologize to me and our children, and begin to renew our relationship. My own therapy in this process helped me to finally, over a long time, forgive him. While I’m still on guard, I feel safer, now and closer to him.
